Independent broker-dealers are stepping up their recruiting efforts as competition for established advisory practices intensifies. This week, Raymond James and Baird both announced notable additions, bringing in teams with substantial books of business and deep client relationships from rival firms.

Raymond James Financial Services (RJFS) welcomed a five-advisor team from Commonwealth Financial Network, adding approximately $500 million in client assets. The team, operating as Harris Wealth Partners in Rochester, New York, includes Todd Harris, Connie Gilderhus, Sarah Fuller, Robert Conderman, and Joseph Palma. They are supported by Executive Assistants Melissa Rigdon and Taylor Rynders, and Client Relations Manager Rochelle Bober.

The practice serves families, business owners, corporate executives, and retirees, with a focus on financial planning and long-term investment guidance. Todd Harris, who brings more than 20 years of industry experience, said the move was driven by a desire for a platform that aligns with their client-first philosophy. "Our client-focused approach has guided our practice for years, and Raymond James offers the stability, reputation, and technology platform that enhances it," he said.

Sarah Fuller, the team's most seasoned planner with over 35 years in the industry, holds the CFP designation. Connie Gilderhus, managing partner, brings over 15 years of experience and the LUTCF designation. Robert Conderman entered the industry in 2008, and Joseph Palma began his investment management career in 2007. Daniel Cole, Northeast division director for RJFS, praised the team's commitment to personalized planning and long-standing client relationships.

This move continues Raymond James's pattern of recruiting Commonwealth advisors, a strategy that began when Commonwealth was acquired by LPL Financial. The firm has been actively expanding its independent channel in the Northeast, and this addition is among the latest in a series of significant hires in 2026.

Meanwhile, Baird announced that Christy Gatien, CFP, has joined its wealth management office in Bellevue, Washington. Gatien comes from D.A. Davidson, where she managed more than $300 million in client assets over a tenure of more than 20 years, most recently as Senior Vice President, Financial Advisor, and Portfolio Manager. She is joined by Senior Client Specialist Sean Ladd and Client Specialist Doug Wiedemeier.

Gatien brings nearly three decades of industry experience and will focus on dynamic financial planning that integrates her investment management background with a deep understanding of each client's needs. At D.A. Davidson, she mentored fellow women advisors and championed greater representation of women in the profession. Baird's Private Wealth Management business oversees more than $395 billion in client assets as of June 30, 2026, across more than 1,400 financial advisors.

The moves come amid a broader trend of advisor mobility. According to industry data, advisor moves hit a record 11,172 in 2025, and competition for experienced talent remains fierce. Firms are increasingly offering transition support, technology platforms, and cultural alignment to attract top producers. As independent broker-dealers continue to expand, the battle for established practices shows no signs of slowing. With firms like Raymond James and Baird actively recruiting, advisors have more options than ever to find a platform that suits their practice and client needs.
