Birmingham, Alabama-based NBC Securities, a broker-dealer overseeing more than $5 billion in assets under advisement, has rebranded as Lanark Financial after nearly three decades. The firm, founded in 1995 by Frank Falkenburg, now operates with 85 financial professionals across 28 branch offices nationwide. The name change, effective immediately, draws on Falkenburg's family history, specifically Lanark Road in Birmingham where his father lived and where the two once ran a small record label called Lanark Records.
The rebranding comes as the independent broker-dealer space faces increasing consolidation, with larger platforms absorbing smaller firms. Lanark Financial, however, is positioning itself to remain independently owned, a status it has held since 2010. The firm aims to sharpen its identity and expand its advisor network while maintaining its focus on relationships, a principle that has guided it since inception.
“This firm has always been a place where advisors have the room, resources, and support to grow while serving clients the right way,” said Peyton Falkenburg, president of Lanark Financial. “That is what Lanark means to us, and what the next thirty years are built around.” The Falkenburgs emphasize that the name change does not signal a shift in ownership, staff, or client relationships. Frank Falkenburg remains chairman, and Peyton Falkenburg continues as president.
The rebrand is part of a broader trend in the wealth management industry. Over the past year, Hightower launched Hightower Signature Wealth to rebrand acquired firms, the Independent Advisor Alliance became Visionary Square, and SLK Private Wealth Management rebranded as Evolve Private Wealth. Lanark Financial's move, however, is distinct in its focus on independence rather than integration into a larger platform.
Lanark Financial will continue to support both W-2 employee advisors and independent 1099 advisors, offering institutional-grade infrastructure alongside flexibility. The firm's team averages more than 25 years of industry experience, backed by compliance support and practice resources. The company stresses that the name change is purely cosmetic, with no changes to operations or leadership.
Frank Falkenburg, who has spent 60 years in the industry, tied the name directly to his family's legacy. “The Lanark name has meant something to my family for a long time,” he said. “After 60 years in this industry, I am just as enthusiastic about the future of this firm as I was when we started. That is what this name means to me.” The word Lanark has Celtic roots, translating loosely to a glade or open clearing where light breaks through, a meaning the firm says mirrors the clarity and room to grow it offers advisors and clients.
The rebranding comes amid a period of significant change in the broker-dealer space, with firms like Merrill Lynch facing regulatory fines and others like Corient expanding internationally. Lanark Financial's decision to rebrand while staying independent is a counterpoint to the trend of consolidation, highlighting the value of a boutique approach in a market dominated by large platforms.
Peyton Falkenburg summed up the firm's philosophy: “Taking care of our people, advisors, clients, and team members, is what has kept this firm on course for thirty years. Getting a little better every day built NBC Securities. That same commitment will guide Lanark Financial for the next thirty.” The firm's focus on organic growth and advisor support positions it as a stable option for advisors seeking independence without the pressures of a large corporate structure.
