SpaceX's initial public offering, which raised $75 billion and marked the largest public offering in history, has ignited a surge of activity among ETF issuers. Since the stock began trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX, at least half a dozen new single-stock ETFs have been launched or reconstituted to provide exposure to Elon Musk's space exploration company. The stock closed its first day with a market capitalization exceeding $2 trillion and has since climbed more than 27% above its IPO price.
On Wednesday, Procure AM, the issuer behind the Procure Space ETF (UFO), added SpaceX to its portfolio following the reconstitution of the VettaFi Space Index. SpaceX now represents a 6.17% weighting in UFO as of June 16, making it the fund's largest holding, ahead of EchoStar Corp. (SATS), Rocket Lab Corp. (RKLB), Trimble Inc. (TRMB), and AST SpaceMobile Inc. (ASTS). Andrew Chanin, co-founder and CEO of ProcureAM, stated that the move provides investors with a publicly traded vehicle offering transparency and daily liquidity.
Also on Wednesday, Kurv Investment Management launched the Kurv SpaceX Enhanced Income ETF (XSHP), which aims to generate current income while maintaining exposure to SpaceX's share price. The fund is designed for investors seeking yield alongside equity participation.
Earlier in the week, Direxion introduced the Daily SpaceX Bull 2X ETF (LOFF), which seeks to deliver 200% of SpaceX's daily performance, before fees and expenses. Themes ETFs followed with the Leverage Shares 2X Long SpaceX Daily ETF (SPCH) and the Leverage Shares 2X Short SpaceX Daily ETF (SSPC), targeting both bullish and bearish positions. REX Shares and Tuttle Capital Management launched the T-REX 2X Long SpaceX Daily Target ETF (SPAX), another leveraged product offering 200% daily exposure.
Aga Kuplinska, senior vice president of product development at Tidal Financial Group, noted that leveraged ETFs are typically used for tactical, short-term exposure rather than long-term holdings. “Investors are looking to express a short-term directional view, often around events or liquidity windows, with the expectation they’ll trade in and out quickly,” she said. She emphasized that intraday tradability, tight daily reset mechanics, and predictable performance over the intended holding period are the key features for such products.
Other issuers, including ProShares and Defiance ETFs, have also filed for SpaceX-linked funds. ProShares' Ultra SpaceX ETF (SPCF) targets 2x daily returns, while Defiance's Daily Target 2X Long SpaceX ETF aims to capture investor appetite for formerly private companies and high-profile stocks.
The rush of ETF launches comes amid broader advisor concerns about portfolio concentration and valuation gaps. In a related development, SpaceX-Tesla merger speculation has raised advisor concerns over portfolio concentration and dilution. Meanwhile, some market participants have pointed to valuation gaps exposed by SpaceX's post-IPO rout, as the stock's volatility has drawn comparisons to AI sector valuations.
State Street has advocated for sector ETF diversification over single-stock funds, as noted in a recent analysis. The firm argues that while single-stock ETFs offer targeted exposure, they carry heightened risk and are best used within a diversified portfolio.
SpaceX's IPO has also spurred activity among wealth managers. A SpaceX employee group has tapped Choreo for sub-0.5% fee wealth management ahead of the IPO, signaling demand for specialized advisory services among company insiders.
