Wells Fargo has officially launched Advisor Gateway, a consolidated desktop platform for its financial advisors, representing a $1 billion technology investment by its wealth and investment management division over several years. The platform provides single-click access to over 200 tools and applications, including proprietary systems like Account 360, Client Review Center, and Money Movement, alongside third-party investment planning software, research tools, and a centralized alternative investments hub.
Sol Gindi, head of Wells Fargo Advisors and the WIM Client Relationship Group, described the launch as a significant step forward, enabling advisors to better manage client relationships and grow their practices. The platform's flagship feature is Proposal and Portfolio Analytics, which integrates BlackRock's Aladdin Wealth technology and includes a new generative AI capability called Auto Commentary. This tool synthesizes risk analytics, client portfolio holdings, and investment preferences into structured insights, streamlining advisor preparation for client meetings.
Ted Stratigos, global head of Aladdin Wealth, noted that the launch reflects a shared vision for the future of advice, with advisors eager to leverage AI for insights and efficiency. Eve Varner, head of the WIM Chief Product Office, emphasized that advisor feedback shaped the platform's design and will guide future updates. Advisor Gateway is available across all WIM channels, including independent advisors in the Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network, which recently added a $2.1 billion team from UBS.
In a related move, UBS has appointed Rick Penafiel as market executive for South Florida, a newly created market reflecting the firm's expansion in the region. Penafiel, a 30-year industry veteran, joins from JPMorgan Wealth Management, where he served as managing director and regional director for the Northeast. He previously led JPMorgan's Palm Beach and Miami markets and spent over a decade at Bear Stearns, starting his career at PaineWebber. Based in Boca Raton, he reports to Julie Fox, Southeast regional director, overseeing Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and Palm Beach.
UBS is splitting its Florida market into two regions: South Florida under Penafiel and Greater Florida, covering Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota, Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Orlando, Gainesville, and Jacksonville, with a separate market executive to be named. This restructuring follows the planned departure of Lane Stumlauf, a 19-year UBS veteran stepping down as Florida market executive later this year. UBS has invested in new offices in Ponte Vedra, Fort Myers, and Coral Gables, with a Boca Raton location expected in the latter half of 2025, plus renovations in Fort Lauderdale and Naples.
The Swiss firm is seeking a turnaround in its U.S. wealth business, which holds roughly two-fifths of its global wealth assets. In March, it received approval for a U.S. bank charter, potentially enabling it to attract client deposits from rivals like JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley. Meanwhile, RBC Wealth Management has welcomed the Shannon Ryan Wealth Management Group to its Southern California Complex, a team overseeing over $400 million in client assets from Wells Fargo. Led by Shannon Ryan, a CFP and adjunct professor at The American College of Financial Services with 30 years of experience, the team includes senior financial associate Robert Lebo, focusing on individuals, corporate executives, and business owners.
